Couple Charged After Cash, Drugs, Weapons Seized At Home 100 Feet From Long Island HS

A warrant search led to the discovery of a cache of cash, drugs and weapons at a home about 100 feet near a high school on Long Island, where the couple charged were home with children, police said.

It happened at Friday morning, Sept. 20 in Bay Shore, Suffolk County Police said.

Acting on information from the community, Third Squad Special Operations Team and Narcotics Section detectives, along with the 3rd Precinct Gang Unit, Community Support Unit, and Emergency Service Section officers executed a search warrant at 5 Grace Street at approximately 6:55 a.m.

Detectives seized more than 1,000 grams of crack cocaine, several ounces of powder cocaine, more than $16,000 in cash, a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun, a Taurus .38-caliber revolver, a quantity of ammunition for both weapons and hydraulic presses and other equipment used in manufacturer and preparation of narcotics.

The residence is approximately 100 feet across the street from Bay Shore High School.

Remon Gibson, 38, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a firearm, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Maudene Bean, 40, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Two of Bean and Gibson’s young children were present in the residence at the time of the execution of the search warrant. They were turned over to a family member.

Gibson will be held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore, and will be arraigned at first District Court in Central Islip on September 21. Bean was released on station-house bail.
